Friday Night Lights

My school--Yorktown High School-- has to be one of the most spirited schools in the DMV (maybe even in the entire country... ehh probably not).  I haven't posted in a while so I decided to write a huge post on our entire football season because it is now the end of the teams regular season.  First of all, the Yorktown Football team won our District Championship this past Friday!!!! My older brother Quinn (#54) has been a starter on the varsity football team since his sophomore year; he is now a senior and one of the captains.  Therefore, football is a huge part of my life (if you knew my family, you would understand) and I love the school spirit that is involved with it.

Our hype squad/ student section at our first game of the season, which was a BLACK OUT

The hype squad at our NEON OUT

The leaders of the hype squad are pictured above.  Andrew Loranger and Kate O'Neil are the presidents and Mike Poppalardo and James Mountain are the vice presidents.  I love being apart of the hype squad and hope to be a leader of it next year (my junior year)

Three of my closest friends Carly Grand, Emily Calvert and Anna Beatrice (she goes to WL aka she's a traitor) in our neon.

My friend Mary Elliott Aderholt and I, she is on Yorktown Dance Team (YDT) which explains her non-neon (black) outfit

Our homecoming theme was "Party in the USA" aka the best theme ever!

Every Thursday night before the game the hype squad decorates the atrium of our school so that the whole school sees it Friday morning in order to get everyone pumped up for the game that night.

Maddie representing the Nats and me being dysfunctional as usual.

I was kinda obsessed with my American outfit
I wore these leggings and these converse and I diy cropped and tied the strings of a white t shirt
Me and Emily wearing our matching American Apparel American leggings

basically

I helped decorate the atrium for senior night and I think it looked awesome

Since my brothers name is Quinn someone started the joke of calling him "Queezus" as a spoof of Kanye West being called Yeezus; however, the nickname stuck and now everyone calls him Queezus (which explains his already large ego... or we could call it confidence).  The cheerleaders made posters for each senior football player and Quinn's is pictured above.

My brother Quinn and I on the field after my family escorted him for his senior night, before his last home game

My family hosted all the seniors for dinner and bought a cake with all of their names on it.

Just to fill you in, my school Yorktown, in Arlington, VA and WL (Washington Lee) are cross town rivals.  Our rivalry is crazy and leading up to the game everyone at yorktown and WL becomes vicious towards each other because everyone is anxious and pumped for the game.  The week of the game my twitter feed was filled with bad/ funny pictures of WL and YHS students captioned with #beatWL and #beatYorktown.  Last year on our senior night we lost to WL 10-0, which hadn't happened in 28 years.  Therefore, there was so much hype around this game because WL was so obnoxious last year so we had to win.
The atrium looked amazing the morning of the game.  I made the huge "BEAT WL" banner that was made of 4 banners.
I also made this sign for my brother, which everyone thought was hilarious

The theme of the game was a WHITE OUT.  I put white hand prints on old leggings and wore a white long sleeve t-shirt, white vest, a white baseball hat, nike mid calfs and white converse

looking fierce to beat wl

The next day my dad and brother were watching the game film and while the quarterback was giving the post-game interview I kept walking around in the background... who knows why.

...AND WE BEAT WL!!

We stormed the field after we won

It was the best game of the season, it was such a fun game and it made me realize how much I love my school.

I love my school and football team so much and hope we continue to do well in the playoffs.

XOXO

  1. It's amazing to witness the immense school spirit at Yorktown High School, especially during our triumphant football season! As the regular season comes to a close, I'm thrilled to share that our team clinched the District Championship this past Friday—an incredible achievement! Personally, having my older brother Quinn as a key player and captain adds an extra layer of pride and excitement. Football isn't just a sport for us; it's a way of life, deeply ingrained in our family's traditions. The camaraderie and energy surrounding our team make every game day unforgettable. Go Patriots!
