DIY Pilgrim Hat Desserts

My mom has made Pilgrim Hats every year for Thanksgiving since I can remember.  She would even bring them into me and my brother's classes at school; It was the highlight of everyone's November.  Here are the steps to make these adorable Pilgrim Hats, that will become a Thanksgiving staple just like it is in my house.

Here are the adorable hats
Ingredients:

You will need...
-chocolate chips (or any chocolate you want to melt)
-Fudge Stripes cookies (either regular or we used dark chocolate)
-marshmallows and icing (preferably yellow)

Supplies:
-a cookie sheet, covered with foil
-a fork or spoon
-a microwave safe container

Step 1:
fill the cookie sheet with the cookies, facing chocolate side up

Step 2:

Fill the container with chocolate chips and put in the microwave for 2 minutes

Stir the chocolate until it is completely melted

Step 3:
Dip a marshmallow into the chocolate to completely cover the marshmallow

Step 4:
Place the marshmallow on top of the cookie

And ta-da you have a pilgrim hat.  Typically I would add a belt and buckle onto the hat with icing; however, the icing was not working well today.

WARNING: it is extremely messy so have a lot of paper towels on hand

Its also a lot of fun to have an assistant as cute as this one

Happy baking and Happy Thanksgiving

Spirit Day Ideas

If you don't go to Yorktown you would not understand the level our girls sports (especially Field Hockey) take spirit days to.  If your high school sports do not dress up for spirit days on the day of their game then you are really missing out.  Spirit days are so much fun because its a great for team bonding and its a good excuse to not have to plan a cute for that day and makes for awesome Instagram opportunities (sorry if YHS fockey took over your feed... not sorry).

The spirit days we use for field hockey require no expense because you will most likely have everything you need already at home.  Which is why these diy costumes/spirit day ideas are great for halloween, costume parties or other school spirited days.

1. 80's Workout Day

I call this one Olivia Cox or Olivia Newton John

"Whats an 80's workout pose?"
let me demonstrate

In order to easily pull off your best 80's workout outfit all you need is colorful tights, bright colored and crazy patterned spandex, leg warmers, a leotard or off the shoulder top or diy t-shirt crop top and a high pony to top it off.

I wore white low top converse, blue and black striped leg warmers that I found in my closet, red tights from an old halloween costume, tie dye spandex, a turquoise sugar lips tank top, a silk striped pajama shirt and a green gingham Lululemon headband.

2. Farm Animal Day

Its called cow tipping

MOO

I was a cow and Maddi Reicherter to my left was a sheep dog

In order to pull off my look for Farm Animal day as a cow would be to wear white converse, white mid calfs,  white shorts, diy a old white t-shirt by drawing cow spots on it with black sharpie.  I also made a cow bell out of paper and ribbon and put it around my neck, finish off the outfit by putting your hair in two b*tch buns (Miley Cyrus buns) and tying them white ribbons.

There are many different easy to pull off farm animal costumes; including, pigs, which consisted of a lot of pink, a tuttu (I don't know why) and pig ears.  There were a couple sheep and one chicken.

3. Barbie Day

"I'm a Barbie girl in a Barbie world!"

I wore a neon pink mini tight mini skirt that I borrowed from Maddi Reicherter, you can most likely find a cheap pink skirt at forever 21 or H&M.  I wore a bright light pink sugar lips tank top and taped the Barbie logo that I printed out on my shirt.  I added a pink hairband and big earrings to finish the classic Barbie look off.

The varsity team wore different themed barbie outfits; including, ballerina barbie, chef barbie, police barbie, etc.

4. Do it for America Day

Here is a cute picture of my dog, Bo and I on America Day

I kinda forgot to take pictures that day; however I wore the same America outfit in the Friday Night Lights post.  Although, I painted my face to look like the American Flag and put my hair in b*tch buns.

Share your favorite spirit days below.

Friday Night Lights

My school--Yorktown High School-- has to be one of the most spirited schools in the DMV (maybe even in the entire country... ehh probably not).  I haven't posted in a while so I decided to write a huge post on our entire football season because it is now the end of the teams regular season.  First of all, the Yorktown Football team won our District Championship this past Friday!!!! My older brother Quinn (#54) has been a starter on the varsity football team since his sophomore year; he is now a senior and one of the captains.  Therefore, football is a huge part of my life (if you knew my family, you would understand) and I love the school spirit that is involved with it.

Our hype squad/ student section at our first game of the season, which was a BLACK OUT

The hype squad at our NEON OUT

The leaders of the hype squad are pictured above.  Andrew Loranger and Kate O'Neil are the presidents and Mike Poppalardo and James Mountain are the vice presidents.  I love being apart of the hype squad and hope to be a leader of it next year (my junior year)

Three of my closest friends Carly Grand, Emily Calvert and Anna Beatrice (she goes to WL aka she's a traitor) in our neon.

My friend Mary Elliott Aderholt and I, she is on Yorktown Dance Team (YDT) which explains her non-neon (black) outfit

Our homecoming theme was "Party in the USA" aka the best theme ever!

Every Thursday night before the game the hype squad decorates the atrium of our school so that the whole school sees it Friday morning in order to get everyone pumped up for the game that night.

Maddie representing the Nats and me being dysfunctional as usual.

I was kinda obsessed with my American outfit
I wore these leggings and these converse and I diy cropped and tied the strings of a white t shirt
Me and Emily wearing our matching American Apparel American leggings

basically

I helped decorate the atrium for senior night and I think it looked awesome

Since my brothers name is Quinn someone started the joke of calling him "Queezus" as a spoof of Kanye West being called Yeezus; however, the nickname stuck and now everyone calls him Queezus (which explains his already large ego... or we could call it confidence).  The cheerleaders made posters for each senior football player and Quinn's is pictured above.

My brother Quinn and I on the field after my family escorted him for his senior night, before his last home game

My family hosted all the seniors for dinner and bought a cake with all of their names on it.

Just to fill you in, my school Yorktown, in Arlington, VA and WL (Washington Lee) are cross town rivals.  Our rivalry is crazy and leading up to the game everyone at yorktown and WL becomes vicious towards each other because everyone is anxious and pumped for the game.  The week of the game my twitter feed was filled with bad/ funny pictures of WL and YHS students captioned with #beatWL and #beatYorktown.  Last year on our senior night we lost to WL 10-0, which hadn't happened in 28 years.  Therefore, there was so much hype around this game because WL was so obnoxious last year so we had to win.
The atrium looked amazing the morning of the game.  I made the huge "BEAT WL" banner that was made of 4 banners.
I also made this sign for my brother, which everyone thought was hilarious

The theme of the game was a WHITE OUT.  I put white hand prints on old leggings and wore a white long sleeve t-shirt, white vest, a white baseball hat, nike mid calfs and white converse

looking fierce to beat wl

The next day my dad and brother were watching the game film and while the quarterback was giving the post-game interview I kept walking around in the background... who knows why.

The hype squad at WL

...AND WE BEAT WL!!

We stormed the field after we won

It was the best game of the season, it was such a fun game and it made me realize how much I love my school.

I love my school and football team so much and hope we continue to do well in the playoffs.

XOXO
