Netflix Recommendations

When the weather is as cold as it has been this winter, all you want to do is climb into bed and binge on netflix all day.  Or maybe that is just me, but I'm guessing it's not.  After watching Netflix in bed for over two weeks straight while recovering from a tonsillectomy, I have recommendations for you.

Both of these shows were actually recommended to me by my Grandma, and they do not disappoint.

1. River

A Netlix original about a British murder mystery, starring Stellan Skarsgard as the brilliant detective, John River.  His mind traps him between the living and dead.  This show is super suspenseful and is only six episodes, making it a quick binge.  I highly recommend it.

2. Broadchurch

Another Netflix original and British murder mystery.  Set in the small, seaside town of Broadchurch (which is beautiful).  A young boy is murdered, and detectives Ellie Miller and Alec Hardy are assigned to the case.  The case is very mysterious and everyone in the town is a suspect.  This show has two season, each with eight episodes.  You will not be able to stop watching it.

I highly recommend both shows; however, personally I enjoyed Broadchurch more.  Happy Bingeing!

I hope you enjoy these shows, and comment below other tv show recommendations below.

Year 16

Yesterday I celebrated my 17th birthday.  When I think of the age 17 it sounds so old; soon I will be applying to colleges, a legal adult, and it just three years I will have ended my time as a teenager.   It amazes me how fast the years go by,  each one blurs together in time.  I want to be able to  distinguish each year and remember the events that make up those 365 days of my life.

Here are some of the events of my year as 16...

I got my drivers license!  I believe that getting your license is the first thing most people think of when hearing about age 16.  I love having the independence from my parents and being able to go where and when I want, for the most part.

I became a lifeguard!  I went through a long training process with the American Red Cross and became certified in CPR and other life saving strategies.  I worked at my neighborhood pool almost everyday this summer, and I had the tan lines and sunburns to prove it.   For some reason my dad  snapped this photo of me on stand.

I also spent my second summer as a swim coach.  I coach the youngest kids on the team, ages 5-6, called the Thundersquad.  It is great to be able to share my love for the team and the sport with the newest members of the team.

I also spent my 11th summer on the swim team.  Although I stopped swimming competitively year round before high school, I still love to be on my summer team.  Our pool is a family and I couldn't imagine spending my summer anywhere else.

The whole team pictured above.  I am on the very far right in a white t-shirt.

My Mom's side of the family had the first grandchild's wedding.  My oldest cousin, Allen, married his long time girlfriend, Jess.  It was such a wonderful celebration and made everyone thrilled for the more weddings we will have to come (I down, 16 to go).

I went to Nashville with my friends for Emily's birthday.  It was so fun to be able to explore the country music capital together.

My family returned to our favorite vacation spot for the third time, Bald Head Island.  However, it was our puppy Bo's first time on the island.  Watching him bark at waves and run on the beach was the highlight of the trip.

My brother, Quinn, graduated from high school.  He also started his freshman year playing football at Towson University.

I cut my hair really short.  It was a constant love-hate relationship.

I had two surgeries within less than a month of each other.  Before Thanksgiving I had my wisdom teeth taken out.  It was bad but nothing compared to what came next.  The week before Christmas break I had my tonsils taken out.  I had never experienced so much pain.  I was in bed for two weeks straight, watched a lot of Netflix, and lost about 10 lbs.  The experiences were awful but I don't ever have to deal with them again.

Pre and post tonsillectomy.

We experienced the biggest blizzard to date.  Winter storm Jonas, accumulated over two feet of snow, giving us over a week off school.

During the snow storm I was able to officially meet my neighbor for the first time, Marcin Gortat, the center for the Wizards.  My brother, dad and I helped him shovel his driveway.

Every moment not mentioned above was spent with my best friend, Megan.  We do pretty much everything together.  She is what made my year incredible.

I would like to thank everyone that made my year amazing.  I cannot wait to see what age 17 has in store for me.

Best Buddies Friendship Walk

About a month ago I participated in the Best Buddies Friendship Walk with the Yorktown Best Buddies Club.  Its taken me forever to open up my laptop and write this post.   Every event I participate in for Best Buddies is better than the last, the Friendship Walk was the best one yet.

The walk was a 5K on the mall downtown.  The Capital Region walk was the biggest in the country and Yorktown raised the second most amount of money behind Washington-Lee, who raised the most.
After completing the walk which was so much fun, we had a pizza and dance party.  I had a blast with our club and it was so great to see how many people are apart of the organization.

I'm dancing in the middle with the Yorktown club.

We made it on the DC snapchat story.

The Best Buddies was so much fun and I can't wait for more events this year.  I highly reccommend joining the Best Buddies club at your school.

First Week of School

Summer is officially over!  I just finished my first week of junior year; and can already feel the stress building with each syllabi and list of school supplies.   However,  I'm excited and scared for what this year will bring.  Here is my first week of school recap.

First Day of School:

My first day of school outfit of the day:
I wore  This Kimchi Blue Ballet Surplice Dress in black and white ($59) from Urban                                                                  Outfitters.
                                                       White Converse    ($50).
This  Marc Jacobs Baker 36 MM grey watch ($195).

First Home Football Game:

Our first home football game, which we won, was against Wakefield High School.  The theme was America in honor of the 14th anniversary of 9/11.  Pictured above is the Hype Squad tailgating in the parking lot before the game.

ootd: I wore...
these US Flag print cotton leggings from American Apparel ($32).
and these Stars and Bars Converse ($60).

College Football:

Saturday morning my family drove to College Park to watch the Maryland vs. Bowling Green football game.  It was the Decades Game, which my family attends every year, to honor the football alumni.  First we attended an alumni tailgate thrown by Maryland Football, and my dad was able to catch up with all his old teammates. It was pouring rain the whole game, which didn't stop us until half time, which is normally when all the former players and their family go on the field; however, the stadium was evacuated  due to inclement weather.

Then we headed to Towson University to watch the Towson vs. St. Francis game.  My dad made tons of food for an amazing tailgate.  Then the rain finally stopped for game time.  The Towson Tigers played a great  game and beat St.  Francis.  At the end of the game we were able to see and catch up with my brother Quinn.
